10 Proven Ways To Practice Self-Care (Even When It Feels Like The World is Falling Apart)

By Mckennah T.

With summer coming up, and January (deeply) in our rearview mirrors, many of our new year’s resolutions to exercise or eat healthier have also been left in the dust. It happens! Don’t let yourself get down about it. Health is so much more than taking care of our physical bodies; it is also important that we take care of our mental and emotional well-being. Try a few of these easy self-care practices and leave us a comment with your best self-care ideas!

  1. Practice Meditation

Meditation has been shown to reduce stress, increase self-awareness, and help control anxiety.

2. Digital Detox

Taking time away from digital devices can increase your happiness and allow you to connect more with the people in your life. Whether you delete social apps from your phone, set up time limits, unfollow social media accounts, or take a break from Netflix, give it a try!

3. Take Yourself on a Date

Who says you need someone else to go on a date? Treat yourself to dinner or to a drive-in or at home movie. Do something that you love or that you have been dying to try!

4.Buy Yourself Flowers

Buy yourself a bouquet of flowers! There is nothing better than having fresh-cut flowers somewhere in your space. If you want to get creative try your hand at creating your own bouquet.

5. Gratitude Journal

Take some time to reflect and write down some things that you are grateful for--people, experiences, things, whatever comes to mind! This mindfulness practice can help you see the good and be more positive.

6. Spend Time in Nature

Go for a walk, even if it is just for 10 minutes, and admire the beauty around you. If you have more time go spend time in a beautiful place you have always wanted to see.

7. Sleep

Take a power nap or revamp your sleeping schedule. Plan a consistent time when you will wake up and go to bed each day and night. Most healthy adults need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep

8. Be Creative (Nailed it.)

Do something creative that you love. Paint, do a photoshoot, craft, or take on a house project!

9. Get a Manicure or Pedicure

Treat yourself with a manicure or pedicure. Create a DIY manicure or pedicure treatment. There are so many YouTube videos who can help you turn your living room into a spa!

10. Declutter

Take a page out of the book of Marie Kondo and declutter your life. This does not need to be a multi-day project. Set a timer for 20 minutes and choose one space to clean up and organize.
